We lived aside of Beulah, in the same double house with Marg and Al Kohler. On the lower side. Our front gate went in beside Beulah’s front fence. On the other side of the house from where their gate was ! If you stand facing Beulah’s house ( with your back towards the road). We lived on the left of Beulah’s. We rented half of the double house from Dr and Mildred Moon. My Mom was Vera, and my Dad was Allen. He drove for Browns Bakery and his truck was often parked in front of our house. I was the same age as your Dad and Wanda was 5 yrs younger than us and for a while we had a Boston terrier dog. That was crazy! Maybe he’ll remember him !! His name was Bugsy, and Snuffy did not like him. We went to live with my Grandmother Klinger AFTER Daddy left us, but we still lived part time at the house on North St. aside of Beulah’s. We went back and forth for a couple years and then moved down to Grandmas full time. That was in 1948. After Daddy left us he used to come see us in a great big Taxi. He might remember that because there were no taxies in the Valley, and it was usually on a Saturday ! Also, my Mom could not see very good, and she always wore sun glasses outside. I remember Myrtle and Harper coming over to our house and Mom and Myrtle used to stand at the fence talking, or they would be on Marg and Al Kohlers back porch and we would be on ours. There was only a railing between them. I must tell you a story when I was a little girl we used to watch the Santa Claus Truck first down at Grandmas (Caroles now) and then back to the corner at my uncles and then we would walk along with the truck up North Street until it got to our house, beside your Batdorfs. My Mom would run and turn on the lights before the Truck got there. And the people would all be hollering, run Vera! There were always a lot of people on Batdorfs porch and Harper used to come down the steps to the sidewalk and give Wanda and I a candy cane! Ask your daddy if he remembers that. I hadn’t thought about it in yrs, but in the mail last night we got your gift cert and the Upper Dauphin Sentinel. Here was a whole page about our Santa Truck !! I guess in my mind it made me remember about the candy canes. I don’t remember if he did it every year or one year, but he did do it at least one year! So, Marc, fifty-five years ago your grandfather gave me a candy cane and now you gave us again for Christmas! What a family legacy! I am so glad that I remembered and could share it with you. I’ll say thank you again, mon ami and cousin, love, Jeanne.
